The Filipino Resistance against the Spanish Rule
The Filipinos resisted the Spanish Rule because of personal grievances, objection against economic impositions, desire to return to animism, agrarian issues, loss of power by datus (cheiftains or barangay leader), and others. The Filipinos began fighting for their country. They fought with the sword and pencils too like Jose Rizal. Filipinos began organizing groups and places to hide and plan. They are also beginning revolts against the Spanish. These revolt occurred frequently in different parts of the colony. They manifested Filipino bravery, heroism, and courage. There were also groups of Filipinos who refused to be subjugated and succeeded in maintaining their independence.
These are the types of revolts caused by the Filipinos because of the harsh rule of the Spanish. The Spaniards implemented economic policies in the Philippines that did not develop the local economy. Instead of developing the Filipino economy, the Spaniards developed their own. The Spaniards exploited the resources of the Filipinos. The Spanish impositions adversely affected the lives of the Filipinos. That caused the revolts and resistances to the Spanish. So that resulted the failure of the Spaniards to colonize the Philippines. If the Spanish were good to the Filipinos and shared their resources or just made the country a way to trading to the Asian part of the world, the Filipinos will not fight against them.
